Privacy policy
Reading ProActive Business Channel costs you no sign-up, no password and no name. Personal details reach us through your messages, press releases or public listings, and this policy sets out what happens to them.
The person in charge of your data
ProActive Business Channel is edited by Tobias Hutchins, and he decides how personal information is handled here. Any question about this policy, or any request about your own details, goes to editor@probusinesschannel.com.
What we keep
Messages sent to the editor. If you email us about a company announcement, a correction or an idea, we keep the message together with your name, your email address and anything else you put in it, so we can answer and pick the conversation up again later.
The site runs no visitor analytics, shows no adverts, has no reader accounts and takes no comments. Your details are never sold, rented or traded with anyone.
People we write to
We occasionally email contacts named in press releases from companies or in public listings, such as an organisation's public contact page or a directory. We take their details only from the release or listing they or their organisation published. Our email may tell you we have covered your news, or invite you to send news, take part in a Q&A or submit an article.
For each contact, we keep their name, organisation, work email address and a link to the story our email referred to. These are the contact records described in this policy. Ask us about them at editor@probusinesschannel.com. To end these emails, send a reply saying "remove". We will then stop emailing you.
Our reason under data protection law
Holding your emails rests on legitimate interest: a newsroom has a fair need to read, answer and follow up what readers, companies and their advisers send in. Should we ever ask for your consent for something, you may withdraw it whenever you like, and doing so does not affect what was done before.
How long it stays
Correspondence is deleted two years after the last message in the exchange, unless the matter it concerns is still being dealt with at that point. The hosting service keeps routine request logs, which can include an IP address, for a short time only before they are cleared automatically.
Companies that handle it on our behalf
Vercel hosts the site and serves each page; its servers keep the brief request logs mentioned above. The editor's mailbox is a Google Workspace account, provided to us through Zapmail, so your emails are stored by Google. Both firms act only on our instructions.
Some of that processing happens in the United States. Where data leaves the UK it is protected by the safeguards UK law recognises, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
What you can ask us to do
You are entitled to a copy of the personal information we have about you, and to have anything wrong in it put right. You can ask for it to be erased, for its use to be limited, or object to us using it at all. You can also ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere, and withdraw any consent you have given.
Email the request to editor@probusinesschannel.com. You will hear back within one month of it arriving.
