METLEN and PETRONAS, through subsidiary PETCO Trading (UK) Limited, have signed a five-year agreement for liquefied natural gas supply to Greece from 2027. Under the sale and purchase agreement, PETCO Trading will deliver six LNG cargoes annually from PETRONAS’ Atlantic portfolio. The supply amounts to approximately 0.6 billion cubic metres per annum. The arrangement is designed to diversify METLEN’s LNG sourcing while supporting security of supply in Greece and Southeast Europe.

Supply From 2027

The agreement provides METLEN with long-term LNG volumes over five years, with deliveries beginning in 2027. It forms part of the company’s Energy Sector Utility strategy, adding supply flexibility and procurement resilience across its gas activities.

The companies said the arrangement also supports Greece’s position as a regional energy hub and aims to contribute to greater LNG supply diversification across Southeast Europe.

Panayotis Kanellopoulos, Chief Executive Director International Energy Supply & Trading at METLEN, said:

“This agreement with PETRONAS represents an important step in strengthening METLEN's strategy to diversify its LNG sourcing. By expanding our international synergies, as with this leading global LNG player, we further enhance flexibility and reliability of supply, supporting both our customers and the broader regional market, as well as Greece's energy hub credentials.”

Expanding LNG Market Presence

For PETRONAS, the agreement extends its LNG presence in markets west of Suez, including Europe and the Mediterranean. The company will draw on its global LNG portfolio and trading capabilities through PETCO Trading (UK) Limited.

The partnership brings together PETRONAS’ Atlantic portfolio with METLEN’s established role across the gas value chain, supporting the efficient supply of energy to its markets.

Datuk Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President and CEO of Gas & Maritime Business at PETRONAS, said:

“This agreement with METLEN underscores PETRONAS' commitment to delivering reliable and flexible LNG solutions that support our customers' evolving energy needs. As markets continue to navigate energy security, affordability and transition priorities, PETRONAS remains focused on creating value through our global LNG portfolio, trading capabilities and trusted partnerships. We are pleased to support METLEN's supply diversification strategy and contribute to strengthening energy resilience in Greece and the wider Southeast European region.”

A New Basis For Collaboration

The sale and purchase agreement strengthens the commercial relationship between METLEN and PETRONAS, while establishing a basis for further collaboration. With six cargoes a year scheduled for Greece, the deal gives both companies a defined role in supporting regional energy resilience over the contract period.
